Ohio Farmers Union Announces Leadership Transition and Vision for Modern, Farmer-Led Organization

Ottawa, Ohio - The Ohio Farmers Union (OFU) announced leadership transitions this week designed to ensure continuity within the organization while reflecting the realities of modern farm and family life.

Joe Logan has stepped into the role of President Pro Tem following the transition of Bryn Bird, who will move from President to Vice President of Internal Affairs as she supports her family abroad in Japan during her husband’s overseas assignment.

Bill Miller will remain in his leadership role as Vice President of External Affairs, continuing his advocacy work on behalf of Ohio family farmers and rural communities.

The organization emphasized that the transition represents not only continuity, but growth. OFU continues to be supported by an energized Executive Committee and Board of Directors, including newer and younger members stepping into leadership roles. As part of this momentum, Graham Oberly of Oaks and Sprouts Farm in Champaign County recently joined the board as a next generation representative, bringing an important generational perspective to the organization.

As part of its continued evolution, OFU will begin a bylaw review process in 2026 aimed at creating a more nimble and modern organizational structure that reflects the realities facing today’s farmers.

Farmers today are balancing more than ever: managing operations, working off-farm jobs, raising families, and remaining active in their communities. OFU leaders say the organization is committed to creating pathways for members to participate and lead from wherever they are and whatever season of life they are navigating.

“This is about building an organization that reflects real life,” said Bryn Bird. “Farmers don’t have the luxury of stepping away from their operations to lead — and they shouldn’t have to. We’re creating a structure where leadership can happen from the field, between harvest or market days, and wherever farmers are, with shared purpose.”

The Ohio Farmers Union remains committed to advocating for family farmers, strengthening rural communities, and building an organization that is both responsive and resilient for years to come.
