Feeding America campaign back this year with a local twist

The National Farmers Union is working again this year with Feeding America to raise money to help food banks across the nation. The difference this year is that our fundraising pledge gives Farmers Union members and friends an option to route their donation directly to their local food bank.

NFU, through our state organizations and individual members across the country has pledged to raise $50,000 for Feeding America. As with the past two campaigns, you can donate directly to Feeding America online through NFU’s page on the Feeding America site.

Help Combat Hunger with NFU & Feeding America

Once again the National Farmers Union is teaming up with Feeding America and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation to help fight hunger in America.

The Howard G. Buffett Foundation has pledged a $50,000 challenge grant to Farmers Union members across the U.S. This means that every dollar we raise, up to $50,000, will be matched by the foundation.

“I am asking all Ohio Farmers Union members to do their part in helping NFU raise these needed funds to help the needy,” said Roger Wise, OFU president.

Just follow the link at the end of this story to donate. Your online donation will be tracked by Feeding America as a Farmers Union contribution and matched by the Buffett Foundation.

All member-driven donations go to food banks that serve hungry people in their communities. Feeding America’s more than 200 member food banks serve 61,000 agencies across the United States that addresses hunger through emergency food assistance and programs.

Through Buffet’s challenge, every dollar donated helps provide $17 worth of food and groceries to Americans in need. With the Buffett Foundation’s matching grant, NFU members will see that number double to $34. If Farmers Union members can reach the goal set of $50,000, it will provide $1.7 million worth of food.

“Ensuring all Americans have a safe, reliable, affordable food supply is something that those of us in agriculture are very concerned about,” said Johnson. “Currently, 37 million Americans are facing hunger, including 14 million children and 3 million seniors. Partnering up with Feeding America gives us an opportunity to lend our part in providing fresh food for families who need it most.”

An Important Time to Join Ohio Farmers Union

Whether you are a family farmer, rural resident or a consumer – and we’re all consumers – this is an important time to join the Ohio Farmers Union.

As an Ohioan who is concerned about revitalizing local economies and what your family eats you’ll get OFU’s representation in Columbus before the Kasich Administration and the Ohio General Assembly. This means that you are helping to lift the voices of ordinary family farmers, small ranchers and the issues that help them keep locally grown and raised, healthy food as a choice in your area. The cards are stacked against truly small businesses in this country, including farmers. OFU is interested in going at issues that affect local economies, families and consumers – we’re not fighting for more power for agribusiness and others who limit our choices as consumers and approach our system of food from a profit first standpoint.

You will also become a member of the National Farmers Union which carries on the same fight in Congress.

Finally, for new members who join between now and the end of February 2012, a portion of your membership fee will be applied toward fighting hunger in America. Through a partnership among Feeding America, the National Farmers Union and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, a portion of your membership will be directly donated to Feeding America and matched by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. Join the Ohio Farmers Union now through February and NFU will donate $10 to feed America’s hungry

If you are concerned about rural Ohio, America’s family farmers and the quality of the food you eat there are many reasons to join the Ohio Farmers Union. From now until February 29, 2012 you can add helping to end hunger in America.

National Farmers Union and Feeding America have partnered to help fight hunger throughout the United States. According to Feeding America, one in six Americans struggles with hunger, including one-fourth of all children. When you join the Ohio Farmers Union, you are also joining NFU. National Farmers Union has pledged $10 to Feeding America for each new membership through next February.  Additionally, OFU/NFU members’ direct donations to Feeding America qualify for a matching grant provided by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. Existing members should visit Feeding America’s NFU page for information and to donate.

“We are very proud to work with Feeding America to tackle this important issue,” said NFU President Roger Johnson. “Now, Farmers Union members can make an even bigger impact. The Howard G. Ohio Farmers Union Members Challenged to Help Feed America’s Hungry

Foundation offers $50,000 matching gift to Feeding America for NFU/OFU members

The Howard G. Buffett Foundation is challenging the National Farmers Union (NFU) to take a stand against hunger in America. The Foundation has donated $50,000 to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief charity, as a challenge grant for NFU members. Every dollar donated by NFU members, up to $50,000, will be matched through the Foundation. The members of the Ohio Farmers Union are participating in this challenge to help feed the hungry people in our communities.
